Our site is a 2.5 acre level flat field with room for five motor homes or small caravans and about fifty pitches for tents. The site is in approx 1000 acres of woodland with a small river at one side just down an embankment. There is also a disused railway line at the other side which is now called the Calderdale Way a lovely walk that cuts through the woods from Sowerby Bridge to Ripponden.  We have three toilets , two hot showers and a washing up sink (we have just had installed) . We have portaloo emptying facilities for caravans .

This camping site was the venue for our VT Carry on Camping Weekend although it is off the beaten track it isn’t too difficult to reach the nearby towns of Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge and further afield by limited local transport or own transport.

Reached by a narrow winding lane (therefore not suitable for caravans), the level field is surrounded by woodland.

Space for about 50 tents – no booking, so get there early at weekends as it is quite a popular site (with many regulars)

Campfires are allowed here Industrial washing machine drums are provided to hold the fire, raised on breeze blocks. A short walk off the campsite, into the woods, and you can find plenty of kindling. Logs and lumps of wood are sold each evening from a truck.

Vehicles aren’t allowed onto the camping field (Except for the local ice cream van that arrives daily!) getting blocked in by late arrivals was a small annoyance, but the warden soon finds the guilty party. The wardens live in Teepees at the entrance, which lends to an informal atmosphere. Fresh farm eggs were for sale, at the bargain price.
